Family Service Kent is seeking applications from qualified Social Workers (MSW or equivalent) for a permanent, full-time position (35 hours per week) as a Mental Health / Clinical Counsellor.
The successful candidate will provide direct therapeutic services to students at St. Clair College, as well as participate in the delivery of Counselling Services Programs (e.g., DBT groups and other group-based interventions as available). Responsibilities include conducting assessments and providing short-term or longer-term therapy.
In addition, the Counsellor will deliver mental health presentations to students, maintain an approachable presence on campus, and collaborate closely with the college to raise awareness of the mental health services offered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide mental health counselling to students
Evaluate client needs and collaboratively develop goals and strategies to achieve client objectives.
Implement effective clinical interventions using a variety of evidenced based treatment modalities
Work both independently and collaboratively as a part of a highly skilled and professional team
Maintain sound clinical judgement, uphold ethical standards, and remain committed to professional development
Maintain administrative duties in accordance with agency and regulatory college standards
Participate in supervision, peer supervision and case discussion meetings regularly
Minimum requirements:
Master of Social Work Degree or equivalent
Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (RSW) or equivalent
Experience providing strength-based counselling to individuals, couples, families, and groups
Trained to provide counselling for individuals experiencing elevated trauma; an asset if trained in EMDR / complex trauma therapeutic modalities
Skills/Competencies:
Superior interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills (oral and written)
Strong administrative, organizational, time management and teamwork skills
Resourcefulness and the ability to take initiative
Proven flexibility and adaptability working in a fast-paced environment, independently and as a member of a team
Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to manage a busy and varied caseload
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products and computer skills in general
Ability to communicate in French would be viewed as an asset
Experience working with college students, LGBTQ2A community, and Indigenous individuals would be assets
