Demir Engineering has an exciting opportunity within the Edmonton foundry shop, seeking a "Melt Operator". The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in foundry production by effectively operating and maintaining gas and induction melting furnaces. This position requires a combination of technical expertise and physical dexterity to successfully keep the melting furnaces operating at maximum efficiency.



Responsibilities:



Exhibit a commitment to safe working practices and be a leader in advocating for safety.
Keeping your work area safe, clean, and well maintained. Taking timely action to correct unsafe work conditions.

In charge of melt deck activities including preparing and charging the furnaces, dosing of master alloys, tapping the ladles, and casting melt in sand molds, mold flasking and shakeout.

Calculating melt additives including ferroalloys and non-ferrous master alloys to create all grade of melts based on engineering specifications.

Responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and operating all types of ladles for tapping and pouring.

Managing and maintaining all required tools to run the workstation and carry the assigned tasks.

Operate a forklift, overhead crane, torches, flame cutting equipment, and other equipment as necessary.

Control of required charge and raw material inventory.

Maintenance of induction and gas furnaces including preparing and maintaining the refractories in the induction furnace and ladles and maintaining crucibles for non-ferrous melting.

Taking temperature measurements of molten metals using immersion probes. Taking samples of molten metal for spectrometer analysis. Monitoring the condition of equipment and coolant temperatures and flow rates of coolant to ensure proper operation of the furnaces.
Assisting Engineering team to design, build, install, and operate required tools and equipment for furnace operation.

Cooperating with the Engineering team and Quality Assurance Manager to maintain and satisfy company QMS.

Attending training and courses to keep up with emerging technologies. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:



Experience working in a foundry setting or steel mill is essential. Experience of working with heavy equipment required, including overhead cranes, forklifts, and skid steers.
