Aakom-Kiyii Health Services is seeking a dedicated and professional Medical Transportation Driver to provide safe, punctual, and compassionate transportation for First Nation clients to approved medical health services. The Medical Transportation Driver operates a passenger van to transport clients in accordance with the First Nations and Inuit Health Medical Transportation Policy and Guideline. This role requires exceptional driving skills, strong organizational abilities, and a commitment to providing a high level of client care.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
? Safe Client Transport: Provide direct, safe, and punctual return transportation from the point of origin to scheduled medical appointments.
? Vehicle Operation: Operate a rubber tired gasoline/diesel powered passenger van, practicing non-aggressive and defensive driving techniques.
? Client Care: Assist passengers in and out of the vehicle , demonstrating patience, empathy, and compassion, especially for clients who may be ill, elderly, or have disabilities.
? Vehicle Maintenance: Maintain the vehicle in safe operating condition, including cleaning, washing, and performing daily inspections (wear, damage, malfunction). Ensure the vehicle is fueled and serviced as required.
? Compliance: Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and the First Nations and Inuit Health Medical Transportation Policy and Guideline.
? Administration: Complete all required daily paperwork and documentation, including reporting no-shows, cancellations, and other deviations to the Coordinator/Office Assistants.
Required Qualifications
Minimum High School Diploma.
Must carry and maintain a valid Class 1, 2, or 4 Alberta operator's license.
CPR and First Aid Certification (current and up-to-date, or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire).
Working knowledge of Alberta laws and regulations for safe driving and criminal code driving offences.
Ability to read and interpret maps, directions, and daily assignment schedules. Hand-eye coordination and dexterity to operate and maintain the van under various conditions.
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience in a professional driving role (e.g., transit, delivery, taxi, or previous medical transport) is preferred.
Technical ability to operate specialized vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, ramps, and various restraint/securing systems (gurneys, wheelchairs).
Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, two-way radio communication, and mobile dispatch/logging applications.
Working Conditions
Work hours may be irregular and subject to change based on client appointment schedules, potentially including early mornings, late evenings, and occasional weekends.
Requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including bending, stooping, and lifting when securing clients, operating lifts, or handling medical equipment.
