Medical Transcriptionist / Data Entry Clerk

Job Description

The Medical Transcriptionist/Data Entry Clerk is responsible for transcribing physician dictation from recordings and accurately entering and managing patient data. This role ensures high-quality documentation while adhering to confidentiality standards under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) to safeguard patient information. The Medical Transcriptionist/Data Entry Clerk will report directly to the Administrative Supervisor of Alberta Retina Consultants.

Duties include but are not limited to:



Transcribes audio into written documents Edits for inconsistencies, missing information, and errors in the letters before submitting it Formats chart notes into documents and letters Sends referral letters to appropriate doctors' offices via mail, faxes, and dr2dr messaging e-referral system

Assists with the following:



Collecting, cross-referencing, updating, and storing health records and related patient information within Healthquest Preparing and sending Release of Information, various forms and other documentation for patients, lawyers, insurance companies, WCB, and referring physicians Creating and updating patient treatment logs in Healthquest for Northwest Territory clinic Liaising with clinic physicians and hospitals about patient appointments and treatments for ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) Performing clinic updates, including verifying demographics, referral letters, and add-ons by cross referencing information from faxes, dr2dr and other sources Preparing, updating, and reconciling patient information for Red Deer Clinics Indexing and uploading preop forms into patient charts

Required Qualifications:



Medical Transcription Certificate preferred Strong attention to detail with excellent typing accuracy and speed Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medication names Proficiency in English grammar, punctuation, editing, and proofreading Experience with transcription equipment and Healthquest software Familiarity with healthcare documentation standards Excellent time management and ability to work independently Strong communication skills for physician clarifications

Alberta Retina Consultants was established in 1998 to meet the retina needs of Albertans. Eight retina specialists work together, within Alberta Retina Consultants, to provide seamless care to our patients. These specialists, are Dr. Mark Greve, Dr. Brad Hinz, Dr. Matt Tennant, Dr. Chad Baker, Dr. Riz Somani, Dr. Dave Ehmann, Dr. Mark Seamone and Dr. Paul Grewal. Each holds educational appointments at the University of Alberta, while also involved in ongoing retina research.

Pay: From $18.51 per hour
