The Don Mills Family Health Team (DMFHT) provides primary health care, including health promotion and disease prevention and chronic disease management to the population of DMFHT catchment's area. The FHT is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of health care professionals who work in a collaborative model of care.
The Medical Assistant plays an important role in the smooth functioning of the Family Health Team and is critical to its success. This position requires excellent administrative support skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities
Take registration information for all new clients and updates information on existing clients.
Provide telephone information, screens calls and connects clients to staff as appropriate.
Ensure a smooth flow of clients to the clinic by monitoring availability of practitioners, notifying staff of client arrivals, explaining any delays, etc.
Validating health cards and processing health claims as appropriate.
Give clients instructions regarding diagnostic tests, arrange for prescription renewals and
communicate medical or other information as instructed by staff.
Schedule appointments within the health centre and to external resources as directed (e.g.
specialists, diagnostic clinics.)
Complete medical referrals and scanning data into EMR (Electronic Medical Records).
Transcription, lab data entry, proof reading labs, and allocating reports from digital fax to EMR.
Prepare clinical reports or other correspondence as needed and send/receive faxes.
Prepare routine statistics or reports as required for program and organizational accountability.
Responsible for transcribing physician and psychiatric notes into internal programs.
Maintain and support a safe and respectful work environment.
Assist with harm reduction programs as required.
This position requires the ability to work flexible shifts including regular days, evenings and Saturdays.
Comply with established personnel policies, procedures, standards and guidelines for operation.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Appropriate university degree and/or relevant administrative experience; some experience in the health care field would be an asset
Proficiency in computer applications: Windows, Microsoft Office programs, email and internet
Demonstrated competence in word processing, minute taking, public liaison, telephone message intake, meeting organization and follow up
Demonstrated ability to make decisions, exercise good judgment, discretion and initiative when dealing with confidential information and/or in responding to inquiries
Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record
Exceptional organizational skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Attention to detail. Proven flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
Work effectively, both independently and as part of an inter-disciplinary team.
Mandarin/Cantonese language skills are considered an asset. Candidates with a valid work permit are welcome to apply.
