THE POSITION
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is to support the strategic scientific direction of Boehringer Ingelheim with the provision of clinical and scientific information/data to health professionals via scientific exchanges/presentations, primarily with defined Scientific Experts (SEs). These exchanges will provide the necessary background for health professionals to make good sound clinical decisions in the treatment of their patients, and allow the MSL to gain understanding of current treatment and management of patients in Canada.
The Medical Science Liaison will deliver scientific insights to the organization which address the scientific needs of the therapeutic area colleagues and influence the strategic decision making and planning for compounds in development or marketed.
This role is accountable for working with HCPs and head office personnel (i.e., Medical Education team) to identify opportunities and key knowledge gaps and barriers to achieving educational objectives that support ongoing HCPs learning needs.
Responsibilities
Scientific Expertise
Establish and provide scientific expertise to support the assigned region with product and disease state knowledge through individual and group presentations of scientific information
Contribute to continuous knowledge development of brand, competitors, understanding of territory specific healthcare systems and clinical practices related to patient care, disease management, treatment protocols, and SE research interests.
Support BI Canada provincial reimbursement efforts through delivery of relevant scientific information including scientific data and information on BI's pipeline or marketed products.
Business integration
Strategically identify opportunities and key knowledge gaps and barriers to achieving appropriate use of medicines in the assigned therapeutic area.
Participate and contribute to cross-functional brand teams and ensure understanding of medical affairs activities in the development of the ICPs. Provide input to establish a strong understanding of the therapeutic area needs of the physicians in the region.
Contribute to development and implementation of multi channel medical affairs initiatives based on customer engagement preferences, insights on customer needs, and medical objectives. Orchestrates customer centric engagements in collaboration with cross-functional and external stakeholders to ensure the ICP, Campaigns and customer journeys are implemented effectively.

Stakeholder Development
Identify and interact with Scientific Experts or other relevant stakeholders (i.e., patient advocacy groups)through credible and accurate medical/scientific exchanges of information
Develop and maintain deep understanding of the expert network in the region and appropriate engagement plans to establish Boehringer Ingelheim leadership with these key medical and scientific experts.
Establish and maintain solid relationships with key medical and scientific experts to understand changes affecting the therapeutic area in Canada.
As per direction, be the primary point of contact for the company with specific experts, coordinating all activities with these experts and ensuring a seamless and highly professional experience for the physician tailored to their specific needs.
Provide support to speakers on the development of materials for both accredited and non-accredited learning programs.
Assess, propose and implement regionally-accredited programs, speaker tours and symposia that meet the educational needs of the region.
