Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Laboratory Transcriptionist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately transcribing a variety of medical reports dictated by pathologists, including surgical, consultation, and autopsy reports. You will ensure timely completion and distribution of transcribed documents while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.



This position requires strong prioritization skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and the ability to communicate effectively with medical staff to clarify or complete documentation. Additional administrative and clerical support tasks will form part of your daily responsibilities to ensure smooth workflow in the department.




ROLE




Transcribe dictated reports including surgical tissue reports, consultations, addendums, provisional autopsy, final autopsy and any stat consultations as requested by the pathologist Organize and schedule workflow to ensure turnaround times are met; determine priority of work Separate and distribute transcribed Pathology and Cytology reports to physicians Provide administrative support to the Lab Manager, Charge/Senior Technologists and Pathologist Perform day-to-day administrative functions and general office duties including, but not limited to, word processing, copying, filing, faxing, scanning and answering the telephone Prepare submissions of autopsy specimens for the Centre of Forensic Sciences and submit Final Autopsy and Invoices to Regional Coroner, Centre of Forensic Sciences, local Coroner, Crown Attorney and Pathologist Perform audits of laboratory processes as requested Participate in scheduling and coordinating sick relief coverage



QUALIFICATIONS




Medical Terminology Course Medical Transcription experience (minimum one year) Exceptional word processing skills including accuracy in spelling and keyboarding (50 wpm), including Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets Significant recent clerical experience including excellent organization skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Have a pleasant personality to converse with internal and external clients Ability to exercise good judgement, take initiative and work independently



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS




Certificate in Medical Office Administration course or equivalent experience

Location:

South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis




Hours of Work:

Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
