Position: Medical Laboratory Technologist - Training Technologist

This is what you\'ll be doing:

The Medical Laboratory Technologist responsible for training understands the principles of medical laboratory sciences basing practice on current techniques and scientific knowledge. Lead training and orientation of new laboratory staff and Medical Laboratory students undergoing clinical placement in the laboratory.

  • Responsible for the orientation of new Laboratory staff, and delivery of required bench training, including supporting applications
  • Evaluate new hire competency to perform assigned duties according to established training checklist
  • Follow the lab\xe2\x80\x99s training process and procedures for competency assessment
  • Train new hires and students in performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and troubleshooting of core lab instruments
  • Assess staff technical skills using various approaches such as direct observation, monitoring reporting, written tests and assigning proficiency testing specimens
  • Maintain training documents and ensure completion of checklists
  • Promotes trainee\xe2\x80\x99s confidence in performing required tasks
  • Complies with the department\xe2\x80\x99s quality assurance programs
  • Assists with reviews of the technical manuals
  • Participates in the implementation of new methods, equipment and software as required
  • Maintains performance in accordance with the College of Medical Technologists of Ontario
  • Performs other duties as required by the Charge Technologists, Technical Director, Laboratory Manager and the Pathologists
  • Contributes to the Total Quality Management system by identifying areas for improvement and areas of risk

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
  • Recent experience of
10 years in a Core Lab environment. * Experience training students is required
  • Strong working knowledge of Biochemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine
  • Familiar with routine automated equipment
  • Ability to work effectively as a collaborative member of a team
  • A positive attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
