QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:
Medical Laboratory Technologists License/Certification in good standing through the respected Provincial Licensing Body
Vulnerable Sector Check renewed within the year
Professional Liability Insurance MANDATORY
SKILLS & ABILITY:
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and laboratory information systems
Ability to think critically and multitask in a high-pressure laboratory environment
Ability to organize and manage laboratory workflows and collaborate effectively with healthcare teams
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team; establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships, exercising judgment in specimen processing, analysis, and reporting according to standards
Behavior consistent with the laboratory's Standards of Performance
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform duties according to the Standards of Professional Practice set out by the respected Provincial Licensing Body and in compliance with the policies, procedures, and standards of the facility
Accept clinical responsibility and professional accountability for accurate and timely laboratory testing and reporting
Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, fulfilling responsibilities related to specimen collection, processing, and analysis
Comply with The Ethical Framework for Medical Laboratory Technologists
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Collect, prepare, and analyze biological specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples using automated and manual laboratory equipment
Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests to detect abnormalities or monitor patient health status
Ensure all laboratory instruments are properly calibrated, maintained, and functioning optimally
Maintain detailed and accurate records of specimens, test results, and quality control activities
Adhere to safety protocols, including sterilization, handling of biohazard materials, and reporting any equipment malfunctions
Comply with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety Act and related legislation
