Position Overview:
We are seeking a versatile and compassionate Medical Lab Assistant / Medical Office Assistant (MLA/MOA) to join our dynamic healthcare team. This hybrid role blends clinical and administrative responsibilities to support efficient patient care and clinic operations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and passionate about creating a smooth, welcoming experience for patients and staff alike.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
Perform blood draws and prepare specimens per lab protocols
Preform and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, height, and weight
Perform ECG's as required
Measure and document head circumference and growth data for infants, and print growth charts for nurse review
Help keep doctors on schedule by ensuring patients are prepped and ready
Room patients and prepare the space for provider exams
Clean and reset rooms between patients following hygiene protocols
Compile and send the Total Health Assessment Report
Perform instrument sterilization duties according to established safety protocols
Monitor and replace bio bins as required
Fold and distribute clean gowns and medical equipment appropriately
Administrative Duties:
Greet patients, ensuring medical information is complete and up to date prior to appointments
Assist with updating demographic information in the EMR
Monitor and triage faxes, ensuring timely handling and follow-up
Call patients to communicate results as directed
Delegate additional tasks or instructions from physicians to nursing staff
Enter appointment updates or additions into the scheduling system
Coordinate with reception, nursing, and other clinic departments to facilitate efficient clinic flow
Maintain inventory and notify relevant staff of low stock items or supplies needing reordering
Contact medication reps to request sample replenishment as needed
Qualifications
Medical Office Assistant diploma
Minimum 2 years of experience in a clinical setting
Phlebotomy experience required
Proficient in EMR systems; MedAccess and NetCare knowledge is an asset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Professional etiquette with a pleasant and patient demeanor
Tech-savvy, with strong computer and software navigation skills
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Strong time management and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality
Team player with a strong work ethic and a passion for preventative healthcare and patient care
Reliable, with a can-do attitude and the ability to multitask effectively
An independent thinker and proactive problem-solver who can work autonomously while also contributing as part of a team
Demonstrates a desire to continuously learn and improve skills
