Clinical Prevention Services (CPS) at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic directions and priorities and policy, clinical administration, management and improvement of clinical prevention services including Sexually Transmitted and Bloodborne Infections (STBBIs), Tuberculosis, and technologic innovations. The Medical Director, Clinical Prevention Services is accountable to the Executive Medical Director, BCCDC for the strategic development, implementation, evaluation and budget of the Clinical Prevention core service areas.

The Medical Director, Clinical Prevention Services will provide expert consultation to physicians and other public health staff to affect improved public health best practice and population health outcomes through policy advice and knowledge. They will assist in the investigation, evaluation and resolution of clinical situations which may pose a threat to human health. They will provide medical/technical consultation and advice to the BCCDC, Ministry of Health services, Medical Health Officers, Regional Health Authorities, First Nations Health Authority, the Public Health Laboratory and other British Columbia ministries and agencies as required. They will also participate in national public health forums and groups as required.

This position requires a Medical Doctor degree with current licensure or eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia in public health and preventive medicine; or current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and community medicine designation (FRCP(C)). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing population health analyses, communication and policy development and translating population health policy to practice.

The candidate is expected to possess strong skills in managing complex communicable disease. The candidate should also demonstrate commitment to the principles of the Truth and Reconciliation process. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in knowledge translation and in the production and publication of scientific reports and peer-reviewed articles. Broad knowledge of the Canadian health care system is an asset. The successful candidate will also have the ability to read, review and interpret technical and scientific reports.
