Position Overview

This position is for a casual role in Medical Device Reprocessing, meaning hours will vary based on departmental needs and staff availability. As a casual employee, you may be scheduled for shifts on short notice and are not guaranteed a set number of hours each week. This role is ideal for individuals looking for flexible work opportunities or gaining experience in the healthcare environment.

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Device Reprocessing Technician to join our team. As a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and sterile reprocessing of medical devices used in patient care. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to follow established safety protocols and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Reprocessing of reusable medical devices, including cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and assembling medical instruments and equipment. Follow infection prevention and control standards, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Maintain records of all reprocessing procedures, including the tracking and logging of medical devices. Inspect medical devices for damage or defects before reprocessing and report any issues to supervisors. Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, washers, and other medical device cleaning machinery. Quality control: Monitor and test sterilization and reprocessing equipment to ensure proper function and meet regulatory standards. Assist in the inventory management of medical devices and sterilization supplies. Collaborate with other healthcare staff to ensure a smooth workflow and proper handling of devices including turning over of operatories. Follow Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and policies at all times. Participate in ongoing training and development regarding new reprocessing techniques, equipment, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Certificate (HSPA or equivalent certification) preferred. Additional certifications in infection prevention and control or related healthcare fields are an asset. Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a medical device reprocessing role or similar environment. Experience working with sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, washers, and other reprocessing technologies. Skills and Competencies: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed procedural documentation. Knowledge of healthcare safety standards, infection control procedures, and medical device regulations. Proficiency in operating sterilization and cleaning equipment. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Other Requirements: Must be able to stand for long periods. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities. Must be willing to undergo a background check, including a criminal record check and immunization requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working in a dental, hospital or healthcare setting is an asset. Familiarity with Alberta Health Services guidelines and regulations. Additional certifications such as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) are considered an asset.
