We are home to more than 14,000 faculty and staff, over 40,000 students and 260,000 alumni worldwide.Your work will have a meaningful influence on a fascinating cross-section of people \xe2\x80\x94 from our students and community members, to our renowned researchers and innovators, making discoveries and generating solutions that make the world healthier, safer, stronger and more just. .Working for the DepartmentThe School of Dentistry Oral Health Clinic (OHC) is located on the 8th Floor of the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and provides oral health care services to patients.Facilities in the OHC include 134 operatories, an in-house prosthodontics and orthodontics laboratory, an on-site industrial-side sterilization unit, and two dispensaries for the distribution of equipment and instrumentation and supplies.PositionThe School of Dentistry is looking for motivated Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians (MDRT), interested in opportunities to join a dynamic team, supporting excellence in education and patient care. Working under the Supervision of the Materials Management Supervisor and day-to-day support with the Central Sterilization (CS) Lead, the MDRT is responsible for the duties related to the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, wrapping, and sterilization of the Oral Health Clinic\'s dental instruments.Openings within the MDRT casual pool are available for individuals that are interested in providing regular coverage support for the Central Sterilization Unit in the School.Shifts are 8 hours in length with an unpaid 1-hour lunch break and available shifts may occur within the following timeframes: 7am to midnight, Monday to Sunday.Duties

  • Follows the Standard Operating Procedures for the cleaning, inspecting, packaging, and sterilization of dental instrumentation
  • Is knowledgeable and skilled in the use and maintenance of all central sterilization equipment including, but not limited to instrument and cart washers, instrument tracking systems, handpiece maintenance systems and sterilizers
  • Loads, operates, and maintains cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing equipment
  • Performs standard tests to monitor the effectiveness of sterilization procedures
  • Sorts, assembles, and packages dental and surgical instruments and equipment
  • Utilizes Axium software for sterilizing and outer barcoding, instrumentation and cassettes
  • Accurately distribute the items to each department and or student making sure that the appropriate areas get the supplies needed
  • Moves carts as required between the Dispensaries, Central Sterilization and Materials Management
  • Maintains an effective inventory control system for equipment and supplies
  • Participates in the maintenance of central sterilization standard operating procedures and implementation strategies, makes recommendations to the Lead/Supervisor for updating protocols
  • Prepares and submit reports detailing IPC breaches and compliance as required
  • Ensures equipment is operating and maintained as per manufacturer\'s instructions in coordination with the Dental Equipment Technician
  • Promotes proper aseptic technique, proper cleaning and maintenance of all equipment
  • Additional duties as required
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT) certification
  • One year experience with medical or dental instruments preferred
  • Current training in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Knowledge of Infection Control Protocol; sterilization procedures for dental instruments and equipment and inventory management an asset
  • Familiarity of basic dental terminology an asset
  • Experience working with specialized dental or sterilization software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • People skills to collaborate and interact effectively with others within a dynamic team-based environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and perform tasks accurately with attention to detail
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, push and pull cart loads up to 100lbs., and be able to lift loads up to 50 lbs.
