Position Overview


The MDR technician performs technical duties related to the disassembly, decontamination, assembly, functional testing, sterilization, storage and distribution of reprocessed equipment and surgical instrumentation according to current established CSA (National Standard of Canada) standards.

Experience


  • Current medical device reprocessing experience required (within one year).
  • Current experience reprocessing flexible endoscopes required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)


  • Grade 12 Manitoba standards required.
  • Successful Completion of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing program required with certificate or diploma of completion.

Certification/Licensure/Registration


  • CSA certification preferred (CMDRT) (Canadian certification).

Qualifications and Skills


  • Basic computer experience required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and operating room procedures.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak, read and write English fluently and be understood by others with whom they are in contact.
  • Requires manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks using fine motor skills.
  • Must be in good health without limitation affecting standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift 10kg (22lbs)+ and push/pull carts weighing up to 110kg(250 lbs).
  • Must be capable of working in stressful conditions with continuous productivity.
  • Able to perform independently, showing sound judgment, flexibility, and initiative.
  • Able to work closely with others in a cooperative manner.
  • Must be service oriented, reliable, and have the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Able to function well both independently and as a team member.
  • Able to maintain a clean and orderly working environment.
  • Able to apply knowledge and organize duties.
  • Cooperative, alert and able to accept directions.
  • Capable of working under pressure and performing a wide range of duties that may require independent action.
  • Able to wear a mask sometimes for long periods.
  • Required to priorize workload on a continuous basis.
  • Requires meticulous attention to detail with regards to technical and mechanical ability.
  • Familiarity with WHIMIS.

Physical Requirements


  • Available to work all shifts; days, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays and possible nights and on-call.
  • Heavy manual work including lifting 1-10 kg; prolonged standing and walking; bending and stooping; loading and unloading carts; lifting and positioning articles ; repetitive arm, hand and shoulder movements; answering and responding to phone calls; rotating between work stations , reading, assembling equipment and checking and recording information
  • Moderate temperature/humidity adjustments.
  • Mechanical hazards working and moving around machinery (washers, conveyor belts, sterilizers).
  • Hazard of burns with sterilizers.
  • Handling of sharp surgical instruments contaminated with blood and body fluids.
  • Exposure to chemicals used for cleaning and sterilization process.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
