JOB SUMMARY:

The medical device reprocessing (MDR) assistant is responsible for performing a full range of duties including disassembling, cleaning, testing, assembling, packaging, sterilizing, storing, documenting and distributing sterile medical devices and supplies to a variety of MDRD clients.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the safe management and flow of critical and semi-critical medical devices and related equipment throughout the reprocessing process including reprocessing, storage, delivery and pick up with strict adherence to MDRD policies and procedures, Manufacturer Instructions for Use (MIFU), CSA standards and PIDAC guidelines
  • Receive or pick up soiled carts from various areas as required
  • Perform decontamination of medical devices: manual and automated cleaning and disinfection
  • Conduct quality inspections of medical devices after washing for cleanliness, functionality and reassembly
  • Prepare and pack medical devices for the sterilization process
  • Perform various methods of sterilization (e.g. steam, high-level disinfection process, low-temperature sterilization, and Pasteurization)
  • Recognize and participate in the processing and distribution of rush, stat, and walk-in requests for sterile supplies
  • Release sterilized loads based on quality assurance testing and process parameters
  • Adhere to quality standard procedures and maintains accurate electronic and paper documentation as required by departmental policy and procedures and CSA Standards
  • Prepare and distribute case carts and medical supplies including travel carts and totes
  • Document and report discrepancies in the reprocessing process to the Team Coordinators and/or Manager for continuous quality improvement
  • Participate in routine maintenance of the department\xe2\x80\x99s equipment by cleaning, checking and testing sterilizers, washers and other equipment for functionality
  • Performs cross-functional duties throughout the department as assigned
  • Monitor inventory, order, replenish and rotate inventory in the work area
  • Work collaboratively with our clients in a professional, customer-focused and timely manner
  • Provide education and support to the MDRD clients as necessary
  • Participate in cleaning and disinfecting work areas
  • Committed to maintaining your professional skills by participating in educational activities and holding current CSA certification.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of Grade 12 education
  • Graduate of a Medical Device Reprocessing program from an accredited academic institution.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent MDRD experience or recent practicum placement in a hospital environment.
  • Current MDRD-CSA certification is an asset or willingness to obtain MDRD Certification within one year of hire.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of all reprocessing steps according to current CSA standards and PIDAC guidelines.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and disinfection products and their use including basic knowledge of WHMIS.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills/command of English, both oral and written.
  • Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position including standing, lifting, bending, and twisting.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload within a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledge of endoscope reprocessing techniques.
  • Proficient in infection prevention and control practices related to all aspects of the safe handling and storing of medical devices
  • Able to work all shifts, weekdays, weekends and holidays
  • Basic computer skills are required (Microsoft Office, Windows, Outlook)
  • Experience with an Instrument Tracking System is an asset
  • Excellent attendance record
