We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting medical practitioners by providing administrative and clinical assistance. Duties
Clinical Responsibilities (Patient Care)
Patient Intake & Vitals:
Escorting patients to exam rooms, recording height/weight, and measuring vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and SpO2).
2. Administrative & Workflow Responsibilities
Triage:
Managing phone calls to determine the urgency of patient needs and providing home-care advice under the physician's protocols.
Prior Authorizations:
Communicating with insurance companies to ensure patients' medications or specialized tests (like MRIs) are covered.
Referral Management:
Coordinating with specialist offices to ensure the patient's medical records are sent and appointments are scheduled.
Prescription Refills:
Processing pharmacy requests for non-controlled substances as authorized by the physician.
Medical Scribing & Documentation:
Using the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to document the "Chief Complaint," updated medications, allergies, and social history before the doctor enters.
Point-of-Care (POC) Testing:
Performing rapid tests such as Strep, Flu, COVID-19, urinalysis, and blood glucose monitoring.
Clinical Procedures:
Assisting the physician with minor office surgeries (suture removal, wart removal, biopsies), performing EKGs, and administering injections or immunizations.
Phlebotomy:
Drawing blood and preparing specimens for transport to laboratories like Labcorp or Quest Diagnostics.
Handle administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and managing correspondence
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including infection control protocols
Support patients by providing information on treatments, medications, and follow-up care
Shadowing & Case Review:
Observing the physician's physical exam techniques and diagnostic reasoning.
Patient Education:
Explaining treatment plans, diet modifications, or how to use medical devices (like inhalers or glucose monitors) to patients.
Care Coordination:
Following up with patients regarding lab results and explaining the "next steps" as dictated by the doctor.
Regulatory & Safety Compliance
OSHA & HIPAA Compliance:
Maintaining strict patient confidentiality and following OSHA safety standards for handling sharps and biohazardous waste.
Sanitization:
Cleaning exam rooms between patients and ensuring surgical instruments are properly sterilized via autoclave.
Requirements
Previous office experience or administrative experience is highly desirable
Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills, demonstrating empathy and professionalism when interacting with patients and staff
Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
Knowledge of healthcare procedures and familiarity with EHR systems is advantageous
A recognised qualification in MEDICINE AND SURGERY
