Overview

Are you a physician interested in playing a leadership role to prevent workplace injury and disease in British Columbia? We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Advisor to join our strong team in the Medical Services department.

You\xe2\x80\x99ll partner with adjudicative staff, occupational safety and hygiene officers, and community physicians to help injured workers in their recovery, rehabilitation, and safe return to work. You\xe2\x80\x99ll play both a medico-legal role, sharing your opinions and recommendations about workers\xe2\x80\x99 medical conditions, causes, and treatments. You\xe2\x80\x99ll also apply your clinical expertise in examining injured workers and providing evidence-based medical care.

Where you\xe2\x80\x99ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operation needs of the position.

In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally in an area office. Let us know in your cover letter which of the following locations you\xe2\x80\x99d like to designate as your local office: Abbotsford, Burnaby, Port Moody, Richmond, Surrey, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nelson, Prince George, Terrace, Victoria, Nanaimo, and Courtenay.

We offer a flexible Monday to Friday work week with a full- or part-time schedule.

What you\'ll do

  • Evaluate medical impairments and disabilities, and share your opinions about cause, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis
  • Provide evidence-based medical recommendations to adjudicating officers making claim entitlement decisions
  • Examine injured workers and provide them with timely medical care
  • Collaborate with community physicians to ensure workers\xe2\x80\x99 disability- and medical-management needs are being met

Your background and experience:
  • Eligible for full licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
  • A minimum of five years of experience in family practice, and an interest in sports, rehabilitation, mental health, or occupational medicine
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety and disability management concepts, including return-to-work planning
  • Willing to work in a team-based environment
  • Excellent communication skills
