Overview

We're dedicated to playing a strong leadership role in workplace injury and disease prevention in British Columbia. As a medical advisor with WorkSafeBC, you'll make a difference in the lives of working people across the province. You'll partner with adjudicative staff, occupational safety and hygiene officers, and community physicians to help people who were injured at work return to work safely and regain quality of life.

Our medical advisor positions are based in 13 offices across the province - Your choice of work location in Abbotsford, Burnaby, Port Moody, Richmond, Surrey, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nelson, Prince George, Terrace, Victoria, Nanaimo, and Courtenay - Let us know in your cover letter which location suits you. Currently, this is a hybrid position where you'll work primarily at home and only occasionaly be on-site at your work location in BC.

What you'll do

As a medical advisor you will:

  • Medico-legal role: Provide opinions and recommendations to our decision-making officers on issues of medical impairment and disability, cause/etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. (Note: medical advisors provide opinions only; they do not make claim entitlement decisions)
  • Clinical role: Examine injured workers and collaborate with community physicians to ensure those workers are getting timely, evidence-based medical care, and that both their disability -and medical- management needs are being met.

We're looking for resourceful, knowledgeable professionals who can:
  • Apply academic and clinical knowledge and experience to find effective, personalized, and supportive solutions that help injured workers recover and return to work safely
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with both medical and non-medical colleagues
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
Your background and experience:
  • Eligible for full licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC
  • A minimum of five years of experience in family practice and an interest in sports, rehabilitation, mental health, or occupational medicine
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety and disability management concepts, including return-to-work planning
  • Willing to work in a team-based environment
  • Excellent communication skills
