The Media Prep Technician position is a crucial part of the tissue culture team, responsible for preparing the necessary media and materials for tissue culture work. This role involves meticulous preparation and management of media and reagents to ensure the successful propagation and maintenance of cannabis tissue cultures.
Responsibilities:
Prepare media, reagents, and tools used for tissue culture processes.
Ensure all media and reagents are prepared using sterile techniques to prevent contamination.
Maintain accurate records of media preparation and inventory.
Sterilize equipment and workspaces according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Assist in the preparation and organization of supplies and inventory management.
Follow detailed protocols to prepare various media types required for tissue culture.
Properly handle and store chemicals and reagents according to Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Adhere to all safety and good laboratory practices as per WHMIS and Lab Safety Training guidelines.
Ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and sterility inside the facility, including routine cleaning and sterilization of equipment and infrastructure.
Support the tissue culture team with additional tasks as required.
Maintain and update preparation logs and inventory databases.
Ensure timely and efficient preparation of media to support tissue culture schedules.
Education & Qualifications:
B.Sc. degree or Diploma in Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, or other relevant scientific discipline.
Preferred minimum 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with a focus on media preparation.
Strong aseptic techniques and practical experience working in sterile environments.
Familiarity with plant tissue culture and micropropagation is an asset.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Ability to follow detailed protocols and standard operating procedures.
Strong record-keeping and data management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.50-$20.00 per hour
