Steele Hotels is seeking a Mechanical Technologist to join our expanding team. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, a high level of professionalism, and excellent technical abilities, coupled with critical thinking skills. The successful candidate must be comfortable working at heights, in a fast-paced environment, with conditions varying at times throughout different events.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
:
Perform predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance on hotel building systems and equipment, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical systems
Operate, inspect, and maintain mechanical systems such as chillers, boilers, compressors, generators, pumps, and air handling units
Conduct regular equipment rounds, documenting readings and system status in mechanical rooms and other areas
Complete routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems to ensure optimal performance and guest comfort
Maintain and troubleshoot variable frequency drivers (VFDs), fan coil units, and pressurization
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues, using diagnostic tools and equipment
Inspect and test life safety components, including fire/smoke dampers, air curtains, and emergency power systems (e.g., diesel generator and transfer pumps)
Monitor and maintain pool systems, including chemical testing and treatment with chlorine and muriatic acid per hotel protocols
Operate and service pool filtration and water quality systems, including recirculation pumps, chemical controllers, surge tanks, and UV panels
Ensure all work complies with environmental, health, safety, and fire protection regulations
Utilize integrated building control systems (BAS) for real-time monitoring and diagnostics of HVAC and energy systems
Coordinate with external contractors for equipment repair, maintenance, and calibration as needed
Record observations on system performance and recommend improvements, repairs, or spare part needs
Support hotel projects related to facility upgrades, system installs, or seasonal maintenance
Assist in the installation and troubleshooting of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning components across guest rooms and public areas
Provide after-hours emergency support, when needed
Perform other duties, as required
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in facility or building systems maintenance, ideally within a hospitality or commercial setting
Strong working knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems
Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Experience working with variable frequency drives (VFDs), integrated control systems, and mechanical ventilation components (e.g., fan coils, VAV boxes)
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and wiring diagrams
Comfort with CAD drawings and performing site inspections is considered an asset
Experience with pool systems and chemical treatment is considered an asset
Experience conducting equipment inspections and documenting findings is considered an asset
Comfortable working with PPE and performing physical tasks; lifting up to 50 lbs., using ladders, and prolonged standing
Knowledge of life safety systems, including fire dampers, smoke dampers, and emergency backup power, is considered an asset.
A valid driver's license
