If you answered yes, our Pinawa, Manitoba location is looking for a Mechanical Technologist. The primary purpose of this position is to operate and maintain experimental decommissioning equipment to perform waste removal from Intermediate Level Waste storage locations at the Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) Waste Management (WM) Areas. This position may also include supporting operations at the Hot Cells facilities and the Cask Loading Facilities. The one of a kind equipment has been developed at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) for manual retrieval project. This is a primarily a field work position. Duties include maintaining equipment as well as procurement activities. Can you see yourself filling this role? If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!

CNL Employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.

What will you be doing?

\xc2\xb7 Maintaining equipment (e.g., flow meters, data acquisition systems, tooling) in a working state.

\xc2\xb7 Performing work with hazardous materials and gases, and radioactive materials with appropriate safety measures in place.

\xc2\xb7 Interacting closely and proactively with fellow lab staff and professional staff to advance team projects.

\xc2\xb7 Representing particular projects requiring interactions with engineering or trades groups.

\xc2\xb7 Participating in writing and reviewing of procedural documents.

\xc2\xb7 Procuring materials and equipment, as required.

\xc2\xb7 Coordinating with Engineering on design change processes.

\xc2\xb7 Helping ensure safe operation of the laboratory.

\xc2\xb7 Assisting in the development of procedures and work plans.

\xc2\xb7 Becoming proficient in the rules and regulations (e.g., JHA and RWA/RLP) for the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible operation of the Whiteshell Laboratories Restoration Project.

\xc2\xb7 Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

\xc2\xb7 Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat \xe2\x80\x9cStandard on Security Screening\xe2\x80\x9d and the \xe2\x80\x9cPolicy on Government Security\xe2\x80\x9d.

\xc2\xb7 Graduation from an Institute of Advanced Technology in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Technology or equivalent formal education.

\xc2\xb7 Minimum of two years of relevant experience in the following areas: construction, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment (including instrumentation).

\xc2\xb7 Construction, operation and maintenance of gas flow systems.

\xc2\xb7 Operation or construction of data acquisition systems.

\xc2\xb7 Experience in a radiation environment along with hazardous materials and gases.

\xc2\xb7 Strong mechanical, electrical or electronic aptitude.

\xc2\xb7 Good verbal and written communication skills.

\xc2\xb7 General computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Office suite of applications).

\xc2\xb7 Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.

\xc2\xb7 Good organizational skills and initiative.

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with piping system and electrical system diagrams and components.

\xc2\xb7 Operations under a Radiological Work Procedure or Radioisotope Laboratory Protocol.

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with CNL policies, processes and procedures relating to a laboratory environment.

Working Conditions:

\xc2\xb7 Ability to handle the physical aspects of a laboratory job. This includes performing some manual labour (construction and setup of experimental apparatus).

\xc2\xb7 The work is generally in a laboratory environment with some hazardous conditions (radiation sources, fissionable materials, electrical power supplies, high temperature fluids and surfaces, hazardous gases and chemicals).

\xc2\xb7 Handling of lead (in compliance with laboratory safety guidelines) will be required. The employee has access to personal protective equipment and to extensive training to understand the hazards.

\xc2\xb7 The employee may occasionally work overtime or irregular hours, particularly during hot-cell experiments; travel is minimal.
