  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, policies and procedures, pertaining to the operations, including occupational health and safety, environmental and quality.
  • Collect and test water samples for chemical and bacterial content
  • Collect wastewater samples and effluent surface water samples for analysis
  • Collect, label and transport water samples to local laboratory facilities
  • Liaise and co-ordinate water and sewer service activities with Base and local municipal and civilian authorities
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot sewer lift stations and equipment
  • Clean and maintain septic tanks and portable toilets
  • Clean and maintain grease trap systems
  • Analyze test results and instrument readings and adjust plant equipment and systems as required to provide and maintain correct treatment
  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, fuel system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems
  • Install, repair and maintain domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
  • Perform life cycle management pertaining to problematic or old equipment that may be unnecessarily using resources and maintenance dollars.
  • Locate and mark positions for pipe, connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls, floors and ground systems. Measure, cut, bend and thread pipes using hand and power tools or machines. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges.
  • Excavate ground areas to locate and repair piping and lines.
  • Operate pressure washer / steam jenny equipment for cleaning and thawing pipe systems
  • Assist,
  • maintain and repair sewer lines and water lines systems
  • maintain and repair fire hydrant systems
  • repair and maintain water distribution systems
  • maintain and repair water distribution valve systems
  • maintain and repair chlorinating and fluoridation systems
  • other Mechanical Technicians in their duties.
  • Monitor, test and maintain chlorine gas detection systems
  • Operate and monitor pumping, computerized systems and related equipment in water treatment plants and pumping stations to regulate the treatment and distribution of potable water
  • Perform hydrant flushing, flow measurement and maintenance.
  • Monitor and inspect plant equipment and systems to detect equipment malfunction and to ensure plant systems are operating normally.
  • Raise or make aware to the supervisor of required corrective maintenance work and of unsafe and abnormal operating conditions
  • Complete and maintain plant and equipment logs and reports.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair fuel dispensing systems.
  • Requisition materials, parts, transportation, contract and support services
  • Liaise with manufacturer and suppliers in troubleshooting equipment and in selecting and acquiring materials, parts and support services
  • Pick-up, transport and/ or co-ordinate the delivery of materials and supplies to relevant work areas and sites
  • Co-ordinate with support services the delivery and pick-up of liquefied chlorine gas cylinders and racks for Spring Gulch
  • Complete shop and work-related forms, logs, work permits and data entries
  • List and provide on the work order all information concerning the work performed and materials used while doing a task and in identifying required corrective maintenance and support services
  • Liaise and co-ordinate road and grounds clearing and cleaning support services
  • Required to periodically work in adverse weather conditions and remote locations
  • Visibly demonstrate Serco values and work practices while completing duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Possession of Water Treatment (WT) Level I, Water Distribution (WD) Level I with the requirement to attain WT Level II and WD Level II within two years.
  • 4 years previous experience in water plant operation and maintenance, and in potable water treatment control.
  • Previous experience in the operation and maintenance of water line distribution system, sewer lines and lift station distribution systems and fuel dispensing systems.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 NL Driver’s license.
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security clearance is required. May be required to upgrade to Secret Level II (dependent upon customer’s security requirements).
  • Ability to obtain driver abstract.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test.

Hourly rate: $42.40 Hours per week: 37.5
