Position Overview:
The Mechanical BMG Supervisor - Finishing Line is a key member of the Base Maintenance Group (BMG), responsible for ensuring equipment reliability through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, project execution, and root cause analysis.
You will lead a small team of millwrights and work closely with operations to keep the finishing line running safely, efficiently, and sustainably. The ideal candidate is a mechanically minded leader with strong hands-on knowledge of hydraulic systems, motors, gearboxes, and heavy machinery--and a passion for proactive maintenance in a complex industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities on the Finishing Line
Supervise a small crew of millwrights; coach and mentor to ensure safe, efficient work
Plan, schedule, and execute preventative and predictive maintenance
Troubleshoot mechanical issues across complex systems (hydraulics, VFDs, gearboxes, etc.)
Oversee repair work, breakdown response, and root cause failure analysis (RCA)
Coordinate shutdown activities, ensuring timelines, parts, and resources are in place
Work with operations and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement
Maintain documentation, work orders, and reports (SAP exposure an asset)
Participate in on-call rotation (approx. 1 week/month); some weekend work as needed
Qualifications:
Required:
5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in heavy industry
+ (steel, pulp & paper, mining, oil & gas, etc.)
Strong hands-on knowledge of:
+ Hydraulic systems
+ Large gearboxes, motors, pumps
+ Mechanical schematics and system diagrams Proven leadership experience in a plant or project environment (formal or informal)
Experience executing preventative maintenance and RCA
Ability to work independently and lead by example
Strong safety mindset and communication skills
Valid driver's license
Preferred:
Experience in steel manufacturing
Familiarity with SAP or similar CMMS
Trade Certificate (433A Millwright) OR Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering/Technology
