Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Mechanical Engineering and who have experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Key Responsibilities
------------------------
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Participate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
Collaborate with engineering team to produce detailed designs for mechanical projects on site such as upgrades to mobile mining equipment, processing plant or building facilities
Coordinate the plan and schedule for maintenance shutdown work
Support operations and work with skilled trades to design/build lifting devices and other aids for maintenance
Assist in coordination of maintenance projects relating to plant, mine and maintenance expansions and modifications; responsible for coordinating, scheduling and supervising the status of maintenance projects
Monitor project budgets and identify inefficiencies and offer cost efficient solutions
Build and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
Qualifications
------------------
Working towards an Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering
Comfortable working in a multifaceted industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain
Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate sophisticated ideas to all levels
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and SolidWorks would be advantageous
Experience with reliability tools (FMECA, FMEA, RCM, RCA, Pareto Graph, Jack-Knife Diagrams) would be an asset
Able to work efficiently independently as well as part of the team
Proven ability to learn innovative technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently
Ability to communicate with precision in a technical environment
Able to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand
A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op is required
All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
Pay Range:
CAD $4,700 - $6,000 per month
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
Access:
This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
