Position Description:



We are seeking a skilled and innovative Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our team focused on the design and development of robotics and automation systems. This role involves creating mechanical solutions for complex automation challenges, integrating robotic systems, and supporting projects from concept through to manufacturing and commissioning. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, simulation, automation, and robotics, with a passion for solving real-world problems through engineering.

Primary Responsibilities:



Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for automation and robotic applications using SOLIDWORKS or equivalent CAD software. Translate conceptual designs, sketches, and customer requirements into functional, manufacturable designs. Capable of conducting automation simulations as well as cycle time studies.
Collaborate with Program Managers, Controls Engineers and vendors to ensure seamless integration of designs aimed at minimizing risk in a cost-effective manner.

Perform engineering calculations, FEA, and automation simulations to validate design integrity. Select and specify materials, actuators, sensors, and mechanical components to meet performance and cost targets. Create detailed drawings, BOMs, and as-built documentation. Ensure designs comply with relevant safety standards, ergonomic considerations, and regulatory requirements. Support prototype builds, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting during system integration. Provide input on improving design processes, standards, and documentation practices. Maintain confidentiality on proprietary and sensitive projects.

Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 5-10 years of mechanical design experience designing robotics and automation systems. Proficient with SOLIDWORKS or similar 3D CAD software. Skilled at developing robotic simulations using simulation software such Process Simulate, Kuka Sim, Roboguide or similar. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and mechanical systems. Experience with robotics, vision systems, and turnkey automation solutions. Knowledge of engineering standards, design for manufacturability (DFM), and mechanical best practices. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Team player with the ability to work independently when needed.

Preferred Skills (Not Required):



Experience with GD&T, motion systems, or robot programming. Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, and machine safety systems. Hands-on experience with machine assembly, testing, or commissioning.
