DESCRIPTION
Brown & Beattie Ltd. are Building Science Engineers that provide services to Building Owners and Managers in the effective evaluation, restoration, maintenance, and capital planning of their buildings. We present options and recommendations for appropriate repair programs to major building systems and review the work for conformance to specified standards. We provide building condition assessments and budget forecasting to enable our clients to effectively budget and plan for building repairs.
For this mid-level position, as a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for assessment of existing building mechanical systems as well as design of replacement systems such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, make-up air units and others. A working knowledge of building electrical systems as they pertain to mechanical systems and building mechanical equipment upgrades is a must. Duties will include drafting specifications, construction review, progress reports, and client liaison. Some supervision of junior staff.
Overall duties and responsibilities should be expected to evolve and increase over time. In particular, this role has the potential to develop into a senior mechanical engineering role within the next 2-3 years, with increased supervision and leadership of a Mechanical Engineering team.
The successful candidate must possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while understanding that working in collaboration with colleagues is critical to efficient problem solving and professional growth. Effective time management skills are required as the successful candidate will be involved in multiple projects and teams with varying and sometimes conflicting priorities concurrently. The successful candidate must also be self-driven and have the ambition to build and lead a new mechanical engineering division.
You will need to effectively convey your thoughts and relevant information both within the company and to clients and contractors in a time sensitive and critical manner. Since the position involves site work, a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license are a must.
Mechanical Engineering Degree required. P.Eng. required. Background in building science, including BSS credential an asset though not required. Salary to be negotiated but commensurate with Industry Standards based on experience. Benefits available. Overtime Pay, Bonus Pay.
Successful applicants understand the job requires physical presence in and around Toronto/GTA/Ontario and that they are permitted to work in Canada / Ontario (and can provide proof as such). Travel could be to anywhere in Ontario, though routinely would be GTA/Golden Horseshoe Region. Training will be provided to successful candidates.
Reporting to the Principal of Building Science, however will also collaborate with other Senior Leaders and their teams.
