Roles & Responsibilities:
Understand client's requirements and assess documentation to ensure that a compliant solution is designed and/or implemented utilizing industry best practices.
Know, respect and apply our philosophy and fundamental values, organizational and operating principles, standards and procedures.
Demonstrate a range of technical capabilities with the experience of Mechanical Engineering and design, development of project documents including (bill of materials, calculations, owners' manual, analysis reports, drawings, specifications, startup and commissioning instructions, maintenance instructions, spare parts list, etc.).
Acquire in-depth knowledge of the company's product, design, engineering, and service capabilities, as well as manufacturing and quality standards.
Acquire in-depth knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
Acquire in-depth knowledge of company's and competitive products and keep abreast of industry activities and product and technology trends.
Conduct detailed analysis of current and new products using analytical methods, in-house design tools/software and other commercial software.
Conduct necessary background research, modeling, analysis and testing of various design options in support of new technology development and new product development projects.
Actively engage with vendors of various components and sub-systems to successfully develop new technology, components and product through active collaboration, specification, review, testing, evaluation, and analysis.
Apply design and cost-competitive execution techniques and develop the most cost-effective solution.
Estimating the product solution, and all other engineering activities from concept through product launch as well as take part in cost improvement and product maintenance activities and more.
Create reports and presentations on technology, product and project activities periodically and as required.
Identify opportunities for product improvements and exploits these through design modifications.
Perform in accordance with the quality, environmental, safety and any other requirements, in accordance with the scope, within the agreed timescales and budgeted costs, in accordance with Company's quality, environmental, safety and any other standards and procedures as well as with all applicable legal requirements.
Hands on design - (produce and review reports, analyses, specifications, calculations, drawings, plans, etc.).
Provide guidance to junior engineers and to drafters.
Interface, integrate and co-ordinate the design solution with other engineering disciplines.
Provide relevant inputs to other disciplines and functions.
Deliver assigned tasks in accordance with the requirements and scope, within the agreed timescales and budgeted costs, in accordance with Company's quality standards and procedures and all applicable legal requirements.
Organize and prioritize tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
Interact with end users and site service technicians with new and existing HVAC projects, provide remote technical support on an as need basis.
General management of the discipline and coordination/interfacing with other disciplines and with Project Management.
Independently perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance of the technical activities of the team.
Independently develop process to generate status and reports, metrics and documents.
Provide relevant inputs to other teammates, disciplines and functions.
Work with junior engineers and act as a validator to attest to the competencies of the candidate engineer during their progress in applying for licensure with the Professional Engineers Ontario.
Some travel may be required to visit end users.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Licensed or Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario complete with PEO's mandatory continuing professional development program, administered through the Practice Evaluation and Knowledge (PEAK) program.
Post-Secondary Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience.
5 years direct work experience in Mechanical Engineering specifically related to HVAC equipment.
Experience in HVAC design projects.
Acquire in-depth knowledge of applicable standard and codes such as Building codes, ASHRAE, OSHA and other applicable standards and codes related to the company product line.
Ability to develop non-standard solutions.
Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team.
Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards and processes.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
Excellent organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
Advanced user of Microsoft Office.
Business fluency in English, both written and verbal. Additional language fluency is a plus.
Demonstrated proficiency in application of modeling, analysis, design and development of products and systems.
Must be hands on and have experience in working in HVAC preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability of working in product development teams
Demonstrated proficiency with data analysis including statistical and uncertainty analysis.
Demonstrated ability in designing experiments, interpreting experimental data, conducting analysis, drawing conclusions and preparing summary reports.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, and regulations.
Demonstrated computer proficiency in all business-related software packages (e.g. MS Office), as well as experience with specific applications and programs related to design engineering (i.e., AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc)
Working knowledge of project management, materials, manufacturing processes and business processes
Working knowledge of new product and technology development processes
Knowledge of electrical/controls an asset (sequence of operation, diagrams, code)
Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed.
Has a valid and current driver's license.
