About the Role
We are recruiting a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer on behalf of our client to support a major industrial project in Southwestern Ontario. This is a full-time, on-site role that involves working closely with the Owner's Team and external contractors to oversee the technical aspects of mechanical systems, from design and procurement through to commissioning and start-up.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring technical accuracy, driving project alignment with specifications, and maintaining a strong focus on safety, schedule, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate all mechanical engineering activities including design development, procurement support, supplier quality assurance, and commissioning/start-up planning
Review engineering contractor deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
Provide input into the bidding process and supplier selection for mechanical equipment packages (e.g., pumps, compressors, cooling towers)
Lead technical evaluation of vendor proposals and ensure selection of cost-effective and technically sound solutions
Support the installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment
Address and resolve deviations from project specifications during engineering or execution
Monitor progress against schedule and budget for assigned packages
Manage changes through established management of change procedures
Identify and mitigate risks related to cost, schedule, quality, or safety
Conduct supplier visits during equipment fabrication to monitor progress and quality
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
10+ years of experience working on large-scale industrial projects
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
PMP certification is considered an asset
Experience with furnaces, dry powder processing systems, or similar mechanical systems is a strong asset
In-depth knowledge of relevant Canadian codes, standards, and industry regulations
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Willingness to travel internationally, as needed
On-site presence required, with visits to engineering offices, contractor sites, and supplier facilities
