Canarm Ltd. is a trusted leader in air movement and ventilation solutions, serving
commercial, industrial, and institutional markets across North America and beyond. Our HVAC division specializes in designing and manufacturing high-performance fans and blowers that deliver superior efficiency, reliability, and durability. With a strong
commitment to innovation and sustainability, we continually invest in advanced
engineering and testing capabilities to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
We are seeking a talented and innovative Mechanical Engineer to specialize in the design and development of high-efficiency blowers and fans for our next-generation HVAC systems. This pivotal role involves applying core mechanical engineering principles (thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer) to create efficient, quiet, and reliable air movement solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development:
Lead the design and optimization of various blower and fan systems using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Revit).
Performance Analysis:
Conduct detailed aerodynamic and performance analysis, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations and static pressure calculations, to ensure optimal airflow distribution and energy efficiency.
Continuous Improvement:
Improve and optimize current designs for higher efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Actively participate in Canarm's continuous improvement journey including standards and work process development, root cause analysis and coaching.
Prototyping & Testing:
Collaborate with the R&D and manufacturing teams to manage the prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs, troubleshooting any performance or manufacturing issues.
Equipment Selection:
Source appropriate materials and components, considering factors like durability, cost-effectiveness, and noise levels.
Compliance & Standards:
Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and building codes (e.g., ASHRAE, AMCA, SMACNA) and contribute to sustainable design practices. Represent Canarm on various technical committees.
Documentation:
Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation, including schematics, blueprints, technical specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs).
Collaboration:
Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, architects, and project managers, to ensure seamless system integration and project delivery.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
Bachelor's degree, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Proven experience in HVAC system design or product development, with a specific focus on blowers, fans, or air handling units.
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Revit, AutoCAD).
Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics and heat transfer.
Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and regulations.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Strong time management and priority setting skills.
Knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing (or similar) principles.
Strong data analysis capability
Able to work in a dynamic team setting as well as individually.
Preferred:
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license or eligibility for licensure.
Experience with energy modeling software and/or CFD analysis tools.
Knowledge of sheet metal design principles.
Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
