LRDL Engineering is an Edmonton-based, prime engineering consulting firm recognized for our industrial innovation, primarily, but not exclusively for the railway industry. Your role as a Mechanical EIT is to facilitate the development, deployment, and maintenance of innovative solutions for our clients. Under the supervision of the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor, you will be engaged in a challenging and fast-paced collaborative atmosphere. You are expected to thrive in a multi-disciplinary team consisting of mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, EITs, drafting technicians, tradespeople, and administrative staff. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and can adapt to a dynamic environment. You will see a project grow from inception to final operation.

Initial responsibilities of the Mechanical EIT include:



1. Design



Work closely with drafting department to create mechanical drawing packages for construction. Execute detailed designs including machine design, material handling, plant engineering, HVAC systems, fluid handling, process instrumentation diagrams, writing functional descriptions, operating and maintenance manuals, etc. Perform mechanical calculations such as: finite element analysis (FEA) for mechanical components, fluid mechanics studies, and HVAC design. Generate complete 3D models of simple and sophisticated machinery. Interact with other disciplines such as electrical and structural to achieve an integrated design.

2. Procurement



Specify equipment and provide input on instrumentation based on project requirements. Locate suitable suppliers and obtain competitive quotations. Evaluate multiple options based on technical, financial, and delivery considerations. Execute purchase orders and follow up on delivery. Inspect received products and coordinate warranty repairs, replacement, or returns, as applicable.

3. Project Management



Schedule and coordinate site installation with contractors. Facilitate the job tendering process and administer contracts where needed. Provide construction engineering support services and address site issues. Work with trades and drafting department to maintain accurate record drawings. Carry out on-site start-up and commissioning, including commissioning checklists, client training, and sign-offs. Complete all work while following safe work practices and complete and maintain proper safety documentation.

4. Troubleshooting and repairs



Provide troubleshooting on site for malfunctioning mechanical systems. Facilitate and coordinate field repairs as well as equipment sent back from the field. Remote troubleshooting of site equipment and systems via phone and remote connection.

5. General engineering support, administration, and shop tasks



Support engineers in miscellaneous tasks such as drafting, 3D modelling, ordering of parts, and maintaining 3D parts library on the company server. Ensure time sheets, invoicing, receipts, expenses, and other administrative forms are filled out correctly and submitted on time as per company policy and procedure. Create and maintain office and shop procedures and forms. Assist other departments as required. Assist in the preparation, writing, and submitting of proposals. Occasional assistance with shop tasks such as disassembly for inspection and refurbishing failed mechanical components.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:



Possess an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. Registration in good standing with APEGA. 1 - 3 years relevant experience. Co-op experience is an asset. Comprehension of the fundamentals of the following: pumping systems, fluid power systems, machine design, HVAC systems, design for fabrication. Experience or interest in process and control systems is an asset. Must have SolidWorks experience. CSWP is an asset. Working knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Windows & Office, is required. Experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical components. Strong practical skills are an asset. Committed to professionalism, safety, and being a team player. Willing and able to travel within Canada, USA, and Mexico and have a reliable vehicle. Background check will be required.

Pay: $68,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
