Position Scope
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Mechanical Designer to join our Modification Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing modifications and improvements to existing food processing equipment to meet customer specifications and enhance equipment performance. This role involves working closely with engineers, manufacturing teams, and service technicians to develop retrofit solutions, document design changes, and support ongoing improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical modifications and retrofits to existing food processing equipment using AutoCAD and Inventor
Prepare 3D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs (Bill of Materials) for modified designs
Collaborate with Project Engineers to evaluate customer requests and propose appropriate technical solutions
Conduct on-site audits and assessments to gather data for retrofit and modification design
Support troubleshooting activities and provide technical assistance to the Aftermarket, Parts, and Service teams
Maintain and update design documentation and records related to equipment modifications
Liaise with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure feasibility and manufacturability of designs
Review and improve existing modification workflows and standards
Track and report on design progress, project timelines, and any deviations from the plan
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications & Abilities
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
2+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in food processing equipment or similar industries
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with design change documentation, BOMs, and ERP systems is an asset
Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills
Ability to interpret and create technical drawings and specifications
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Willingness to travel to domestic and international job sites for equipment audits
Eligible to work in Canada
Class 5 driver's license preferred
EIT or P.Eng designation (or eligibility) under EGBC is considered an asset
