Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will focus on design for manufacturability (DFM) of greenhouse structures and related components, ensuring designs are efficient, cost-effective, and production-ready. Leveraging Solid Works CAD software, this role will play a key part in developing high-quality, structural products and engineering definition that support the company's growth and our customer's needs.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Develop 3D models and detailed 2D drawings of mechanical assemblies, weldments, and components using SolidWorks.
Apply design-for-manufacturability principles to reduce costs, improve product quality, and streamline fabrication processes.
Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and installation teams to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and optimized for production.
Conduct tolerance analysis, material selection, and structural considerations to meet performance, durability, and safety standards.
Maintain and update CAD models, design libraries, and engineering documentation.
Support prototype builds and testing, and incorporating feedback into design improvements.
Identify opportunities for standardization and simplification in designs to improve scalability and customer satisfaction.
Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and internal quality processes.
Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Requirements
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology/Technician, Mechanical Design, or a related field.
3+ years of mechanical design experience, ideally in structural metal fabrication industries is an asset.
Proficiency in SolidWorks (part modeling, assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, and drawing packages).
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, general fabrication, machining, etc.).
Knowledge of structural design principles and materials commonly used in greenhouse and/or greenhouse/garden center fixtures is an asset.
Excellent problem-solving skills with an emphasis on practical, real-world solutions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills across sales, manufacturing, and installation teams.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
