Who We\xe2\x80\x99re Looking For: A Mechanical Designer is a highly motivated, organized and knowledgeable individual willing to contribute their experience and expertise to our team, specifically in the design of fire protection systems. What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Be Doing: As a Mechanical Designer, your responsibilities would include but would not be limited to the following:
Review all projects assigned by the Engineering Lead and notify of any information gaps
Design fire protection systems following local codes, project documents, and the company\xe2\x80\x99s standard operating procedures
Using HydraCAD, develop system drawings per company standards
Using HydraCALC, develop system calculations per company standards
Communicate project status to project stakeholders
Attend on-site coordination meetings as required
Prepare IFC and As-Built drawings per client provided information
Work closely with all stakeholders, including the NSD team, sprinkler contractors, general contractors, architects, consultants, building owners, local building officials and fire inspectors to ensure the continued success of all assigned projects
Conduct pre-design site surveys to obtain the information required for fire protection design
Conduct fire hydrant flow tests as required
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Engineering Lead
What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need In Your Toolkit:
Technical diploma or degree in a related discipline (fire protection, mechanical, construction, or architectural) or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fire protection design
Working knowledge of the following codes: OBC, NBC, NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14 & 20
Ability to read and interpret codes, technical specifications, and building construction drawings including fire protection, architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical
Experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
Ability to travel to local job sites
Ability to travel periodically to NSD\xe2\x80\x99s Head Office in London, ON for training and/or meetings
Experience in the fire protection construction industry is an asset
Experience with HydraCAD, HydraCALC and/or Revit are strong assets
Detail-oriented with great organizational skills and work ethic
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Ability to clearly communicate, in writing and verbally, with all project stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet project deadlines and problem solve efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
