About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and collaborate on the full product development lifecycle--from system-level design and component selection to documentation and regulatory compliance. This role involves guiding design reviews, mentoring team members, mitigating risks through FMEA, and ensuring adherence to industry standards. You will represent the company technically to customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders while driving innovation and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the development of new products within a formal product development process.
• Perform system-level design with limited guidance, often without specific design standards.
• Participate in business case formulation and evaluation.
• Guide and approve design documents, validation plans, and engineering documentation.
• Apply engineering principles to machine design, including sizing and selecting components (motors, sensors, bearings, gearboxes, belts, seals, servo motors, pneumatic and hydraulic components).
• Create system-level concept designs (block diagrams, CAD layouts, functional decomposition).
• Lead design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and decision-making for product architecture.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with product release processes.
• Facilitate design risk mitigation activities, including FMEA.
• Champion regulatory compliance and cross-disciplinary collaboration (Electrical, Software, Fluid Power, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, Validation/Test).
• Represent the company technically to customers, suppliers, and internal executives.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 8+ years of mechanical design experience (industrial machines and/or plastics processing).
• Expertise in machine or automation design.
• Strong ability to calculate design parameters and apply engineering principles.
• Proficiency in selecting and sizing components (gearboxes, bearings, belts, seals, servo motors, bushings, pneumatics, hydraulics).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation abilities.
• Experience with CAD modeling software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, Siemens NX, Inventor).
• Knowledge of tolerance stack-up and GD&T.
• Experience with stress analysis/simulation.
• Ability to manage Bill of Materials (BOM).

Preferred Skills

• Mechanical engineering fundamentals, machine design, conceptual design, and engineering calculations.
• Familiarity with patent processes and advanced analysis techniques.
• Tooling experience is an asset.

This is a Permanent position based out of Bolton, ON. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $140000.00/yr. Workplace Type
This is a fully onsite position in Bolton,ON.
