This 112-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of approximately $65 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15 day annual summer Fair which averages 800,000 guests each year, Playland amusement park which welcomes 375,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, year-round events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. Under the direction of the Director, Facilities & Maintenance, the Mechanic Tradesperson will ensure that the required maintenance tasks are completed on site. This individual will operate tools/equipment in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

What will you do this year?

In your role as a Mechanic Tradesperson, your primary accountabilities will include:
  • Performing repairs and maintenance on a variety of equipment including Forklifts, Aerial Lifts, Scissor Lift, Commercial Vehicles, Zambonis, ATV\xe2\x80\x99s/UTV\xe2\x80\x99s, Golf Carts, Belts, chains, gears, heavy equipment, clutches, coupling and other various equipment
  • Troubleshooting repairs that include but are not limited to, routine maintenance and repairing engines chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, wheels, and tires
  • Inspecting machines and discovering any functionality issues
  • Road testing vehicles to troubleshoot problems and/or test repairs to ensure proper and safe completion.
  • Ensuring repairs are carried out according to manufacturer\'s procedures and in a safe and responsible manner, within the designated time frame.
  • Using a large array of hand and power tools
  • Ensuring work orders are completed properly and accurately and maintaining records of all maintenance work completed including parts and supplies used.
  • Troubleshooting reported problems and resolving them in a timely manner
  • Maintaining the shop as a safe and healthy working environment
  • Using CMMS programs on a daily basis after training
  • Ensure work is performed within a specified time, and notify supervisor if difficulties arise.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for yourself and others.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What else?
  • Successful completion of post-secondary Training of a Trade Qualification (T.Q.) level in Mechanic.
  • Min. of 3 years of general mechanical maintenance and knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the mechanical trade.
  • Must possess a solid working knowledge of computer applications; able to process Time and Attendance, schedules, write written reports and respond to email.
  • Must be capable of reading, writing, and speaking English for the purposes of written or oral instructions, timesheets, and documentation of work.
  • Forklift certification is required.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License and provide an up-to-date Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Abstract confirming a clean driving record.
  • Capable of working at high heights and lifting heavy materials up to WCB restrictions
  • Physically able to work in awkward positions.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions of the construction trades
  • Must be available to work events, including, evening, weekends & holidays when required.
  • Candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
