Heavy Duty and Light Vehicle Mechanic

This position will require rotation to Faro, YT for onsite work at the Faro Mine Complex.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works with management to pre-plan and schedule daily and overall heavy equipment and light vehicle maintenance and repair to prevent functional breakdowns.
  • Performing diagnostics, repair, preventative maintenance, and safety checks on all heavy equipment and light vehicle fleet.
  • Maintaining heavy equipment and light vehicle maintenance and repair records.
  • Ensuring physical security of equipment.
  • Maintenance and repair of equipment hydraulic systems.
  • Determining methods and sequence of troubleshooting, repair operations, and modifications to equipment by working from manufacturers manuals, drawings, and specifications, installation layouts and sketches and verbal or written instructions.
  • Performs such typical operations as dismantling, diagnosing problem cause, repairing, mechanical servicing, and reassembling, installing and test operations of assigned equipment.
  • Replace worn or broken parts, make adjustments and alignments as required, clean areas, and prepare equipment for full service.
Professional Experience/Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic and/or light vehicle gas engine mechanic.
  • Red Seal Journeyman Certification Preferred
  • Proficient with basic computer systems including email and Microsoft Office applications and be able to work with a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Extensive experience in hydraulics.
  • Experienced in using mechanical tools of the trade including diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and manufacturer diagrams and manuals.
  • Diagnostic skills required to isolate and repair equipment malfunctions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize work, complete multiple tasks, be detail oriented, and be adaptable.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Possessing a valid Mine Rescue Certificate (surface) compatible with Yukon OHS Mine Rescue Standard (OHS, 2016) and approved by Yukon WCB, or willingness and ability to undergo training to obtain such.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license or better.
