Description

We are looking for a talented MEA Scientist to join our #Accelera by Cummins business unit located in Mississauga, Ontario.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • This applied science position applies chemical principles that create and develop product functionalities which are integrated and sold into Cummins\xe2\x80\x99 products. The position involves the research, design, analysis, testing and failure analysis of chemical based products, including catalyts, substrates, sensors, batteries and fuel cells.
  • Provides independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge; engages with the improvement of systems and processes
  • Contributes effectively toward team goals, exhibits influence within a work group and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • Accelerated Aging Testing and Analysis of Chemical Systems - Designs and constructs laboratory equipment to simulate various aging exposures relevant to practical applications of active chemical components, including thermal cycling, chemical poisoning, and physical masking.
  • Characterization of Chemical Systems - Designs and conducts tests of physicochemical properties, for example morphology, acid-base and redox properties, diffusion characteristics, impedance behaviors, solubility, and chemical poisoning, in order to aid in diagnostics and prediction of performance and health of chemically active components.
  • Chemical or Electrochemical Performance Testing - Designs tests measuring chemical transformation of species, selectivity, electric yield, response to chemical and physical environments in order to determine performance, durability, or state of health of chemically or electrochemically active components; examines and interprets test data using analysis methods to draw conclusions that influence hardware and controls design decisions and to provide information for computational tools development.
  • Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis - Impacts product design decisions through the utilization and/or interpretation of computational tools and methods that predict the capability of a product\'s function relative to its system, sub-system and/or component level requirements.
Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.

Experience Required:
  • Prior entry level engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required.
  • Strong background in electrochemistry and materials science.
  • An in-depth understanding of the properties and characteristics of electrode materials for selecting, designing, and optimizing electrodes for fuel cells and electrolyzers.
  • Ability to fabricate electrodes using various techniques such as doctor blade coating, spray coating, and inkjet printing
  • Develop MEA product specifications for different applications/generations.
  • Understand and tailor MEA subcomponents to the key tunable to address cost, performance, and durability
  • Hands-on experience in product design and prototyping in the fields of fuel cells, or electrolyzers.
  • Understand degradation mechanisms of the MEA subcomponents to improve their durability.
  • Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers
  • Manage technical swim lane with key suppliers, purchasing, and quality function for research, development and production
