Job Description

Spirit of Math Schools is an after-school program offering a highly challenging mathematics curriculum in a structured classroom setting. Our students are highly motivated and often gifted.

We are currently seeking

part-time teachers

to teach

Grades 1 and 2

on

weekends

.

Applicants must have a strong interest and/or background in mathematics. A willingness to learn and apply the Spirit of Math teaching methodology is essential.



The ideal candidate is patient, enthusiastic, and highly dependable. You excel at building connections with children by balancing kindness and firmness. You understand the importance of structure in facilitating learning and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment.

You are a collaborative team player with a desire to help others grow. You are also eager to learn and apply the Spirit of Math method, which emphasizes conceptual understanding and the discovery of mathematical relationships. The training you receive will deepen your understanding of mathematics and further develop your teaching skills.

Skills / Educational Requirements



A bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university is required.

Experience working with highly motivated students is an asset.

Responsibilities



Teachers are responsible for fostering a high-trust learning environment, developing both the values and math skills of students, and building strong relationships with parents.

Key responsibilities include:

Effectively managing the classroom to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment

Adhering to the Spirit of Math teaching methodology and administrative systems

Delivering lessons to students

Grading assignments, tests, and exams

Building and maintaining relationships with parents

Addressing performance and behavioral concerns

Drafting report cards three times per year

Managing assistant teachers (as needed)

Maintaining accurate records of grades and attendance

Participating in periodic peer evaluations

Attending professional development sessions several times per year

Training Expectations:



You will be required to complete a

two-week paid training program

. Week 1: Self-paced, online self-study module. Week 2: In-person training session

Pay Type:

Salary

Minimum: CAD 13,000 (for teaching two classes per week)

Maximum: CAD 52,000 (for teaching eight classes per week)

Classes run from September to June
