Our Academic Mentors work closely with each student's academic schedule and learning style to deliver targeted support and consistent progress.

Role Overview

We are hiring a Math & Sciences Tutor (Academic Mentor) to provide high-impact academic support both online and in person. You will work one-on-one (and occasionally in small groups) to help students strengthen their understanding of mathematical and scientific concepts while developing problem-solving skills, confidence, and academic discipline.

This role is ideal for an educator who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and building meaningful academic relationships with students.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver engaging math and science tutoring sessions (online and in person as required) Conduct an initial diagnostic-style assessment to identify academic strengths, gaps, and goals Create and follow customized learning plans aligned with curriculum expectations and student needs Support students in Math and Sciences, including (as applicable): Elementary, middle, and high school math fundamentals Algebra, geometry, functions, and problem-solving strategies Sciences such as biology, chemistry, physics, and general science Exam preparation, quizzes, tests, and assignment support Break down complex concepts into clear, approachable explanations Provide regular progress updates, measurable goal-setting, and constructive feedback Foster a supportive, motivating learning environment that encourages confidence and consistency Use collaborative tools (whiteboards, shared documents, practice problems) to enhance learning Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and clear communication with students and families

Who You'll Tutor

Students may include:

K-12 students needing support with math and science coursework Middle and high school students preparing for tests, exams, and academic improvement IB, AP, or enriched learners (experience an asset) Students who benefit from structured guidance, encouragement, and consistent mentorship

Required Qualifications

Strong knowledge of math and/or science subjects appropriate for K-12 students Ability to explain concepts clearly, patiently, and at multiple levels Minimum Bachelor's degree (or currently in progress with strong experience), ideally in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Education, or a related field Experience tutoring or teaching math and/or sciences (formal or informal) Comfortable teaching both online and in person Reliable transportation for in-person sessions near 997 Seymour St, Vancouver Strong communication skills, professionalism, and punctuality

Preferred Assets (Nice to Have)

Familiarity with BC curriculum or Canadian school expectations Classroom teaching experience (BC certification is an asset) Experience supporting students with learning differences (ADHD, anxiety, executive functioning challenges) Experience with exam preparation or structured academic programs

Pay: $24.81-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 25 per week
