The role of the coach will be to assist in building teachers' capacities to meet the needs of the diverse learners in their mathematics classrooms. The coach will support Kindergarten to Grade 8 math teachers. The intent is to provide common understandings and practices, within schools and between schools to support Saskatchewan Math Curriculum and the Board's vision for Mathematics achievement.


The Math Coach will provide ongoing professional development through which classroom teachers deepen their mathematical understandings, instructional methods, and assessment strategies. A key component of this professional development will be providing coaching to teachers in the implementation of The Guided Math Framework in K-8 math classrooms. Another important aspect will be ongoing teacher support in the use of Numeracy Nets as part of a Guided Math classroom.


Duties:



Plan and deliver workshops for Kindergarten-Grade 8 in math strategies within Chinook; Train and support new teachers to Chinook in using the Guided Math Framework; Train and support math intervention teachers in the use of Math Intervention programs; Provide support for professional growth for staff through collaboration, co-planning, co-teaching and debriefing; Assist in implementation of math curriculum; Support teacher planning; Assist in using data collected from ongoing classroom and system-based assessments to inform and guide instruction (assessment FOR Learning); The successful candidate will have a commitment to the vision, mission, principles and goals of the Chinook School Division.

Qualifications:



Minimum of 5 years' experience as a teacher; Demonstrated excellence in using high impact math instructional strategies in the classroom; Strong skills in building relationships; Experience as a coach is an asset; Successful teaching experience with Elementary/Middle School students; Extensive knowledge of effective mathematics practices at various grade levels; Practical knowledge of constructivist teaching practices; Knowledge of adult learner needs; Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities; Creative problem-solver; Skills in facilitation and presentation; Willing to travel and spend time as required; Ability to work without direct supervision; Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with principals, teachers, and colleagues; Demonstrates a commitment to truth and reconciliation; Demonstrates a commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion; Certified as a Teacher in good standing in Saskatchewan or the ability to be certified.
