Job Description

FPH Group is a manufacturer of highly engineered products, primarily supplying the defense industry. We look to provide Design Solutions to some of the more complex challenges our customers face.

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Materials Manager to oversee all aspects of purchasing, inventory management, estimating, and shipping/receiving within our defense manufacturing operations. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient flow of materials through the supply chain to meet production schedules, cost targets, and customer requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supply chain management and cost estimating within the defense or aerospace industry, with deep knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and ITAR compliance. The Materials Manager will lead a team to optimize material planning, vendor management, and logistics while ensuring full traceability and adherence to government and company quality standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



Ability to read drawings & blueprints

Oversee and manage all material-related functions, including purchasing, estimating, inventory control, shipping, and receiving.

Develop and execute procurement and estimating strategies that align with program schedules, cost goals, and compliance requirements.

Prepare material cost estimates and support proposal activities, including developing bills of material (BOMs), supplier quotations, and cost roll-ups for new business bids.

Ensure all purchasing and estimating activities adhere to FAR/DFARS and ITAR regulations.

Manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and evaluate vendor performance.

Oversee and maintain inventory levels of materials to meet targets as set by management

Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure material traceability and compliance with government regulations.

Coordinate with production, engineering, estimating, and quality teams to ensure timely and cost-effective material availability.

Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and mitigate supply chain risks.

Lead and mentor the materials and logistics team to achieve departmental objectives.

Prepare reports, forecasts, and performance metrics for senior management.

Support internal and external audits related to materials, estimating, and supply chain processes.

Fosters effective employee relations. Establishes a safe and productive work environment for employees.

Follow regulations and policies as outlined in company's employee handbook

Follow requirements as required by Controlled Goods Registration and other defense sector registrations (i.e. ITAR, etc.)

In accordance with the health & safety policy, follow and exceed the legislative requirements outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act in order to provide a safe & healthy workplace for all employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field

Must be a Canadian Citizen or have your P.R.

Must be able to successfully pass a controlled goods security assessment

5+ years of experience in materials management, purchasing, estimating, or supply chain roles, preferably in the defense or aerospace sector.

Knowledge of FAR, DFARS, ITAR, and other government contracting regulations.

Demonstrated experience preparing material cost estimates and supporting proposal efforts for defense contracts

Proven experience managing suppliers, negotiating contracts, and driving cost savings.

Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, cost-estimating tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.

Background in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or cost-estimating software.
