The Material Coordinator will be responsible for selecting and purchasing products to support our railcar and locomotive repair and overhaul material requirements. Responsibilities will include processing purchase orders, tracking orders, negotiating with suppliers, creating, and maintaining inventory, auditing, material planning and kitting. The Material Coordinator should be analytical and have good planning skills.


Roles & Responsibilities




Assists with the ordering, organizing, shelving, packing, labeling, delivering and maintaining a perpetual inventory of supplies, materials and equipment. Assists in purchase of inventory items for the operations including researching parts, pricing, and vendors as directed Builds relationships with customer and vendors Performs all data entry into the inventory records using applicable computer-based systems so that inventory lists reflect how much stock is in the warehouse at any give time Assists with the full cycle process related to customs documentation and material returns; supports invoicing for internal and external sales Advance plans and organizes the material inventory requirements for cars or locomotives scheduled to the shop. Prepares a kit of materials for the railcar or locomotive based on next in scheduling and ensures the completeness of the material requirements and delivers to shop. Assist where required with loading and unloading all stock; works cooperatively with delivery truck drivers, maintains laydown locations, and cleans warehouse storage areas; receives and organizes materials in appropriate areas and identifies and labels materials Assists with the managing of all freight providers including couriers and mailing of materials and parts Ensures the parts building and laydown space is keep neat, clean, and well-organized ensuring inventory is sorted and stocked; identifies the need for the repair of all warehouse equipment and maintenance of the building Ensures all safety practices and policies are adhered to



Skills, Knowledge & Abilities




Demonstrates initiative to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload taking into consideration conflicting deadlines and/or multiple requests for parts Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with employees, customers, and suppliers Knowledge of general purchasing practices, inventory management concepts, and accounting procedures including invoicing Skilled in the use of computer equipment, operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet and database software Hold and maintain valid class 5 drivers' license and obtain a forklift operator certification Must be physically able to lift heavy items above and below shoulder height, and perform continuous standing, walking, reaching, and bending Ability to work outside in all weather conditions

Education & Experience




A minimum of 2 years experience a buyer purchaser or warehouse associate is an asset. Experience with inventory software and control systems Experience working in an industrial shop environment an asset
