Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Master degree in Materials Science and Engineering, and PhD in Materials Engineering, from reputable university.

Experience: 5 -10 years combined research and academic experience in research centers and academic environment such as university or college is required for this role. The applicant must have Canadian research experience in a similar capacity for a minimum of 1-2 years.

The applicant must also possess relevant workplace trainings such as First Aid, WHMIS 2015, Workplace safety training for supervisor, Safety Orientation for employee, Best Service training and Respect in Workplace training.

Work must be completed at the physical location. However, since the position involve materials characterization, the role will required visiting research and academic laboratories within and outside the province, as the case may be for testing and analysis of materials.

Responsibilities

You will advise on which metals or alloys, such as copper, steel, or specialized alloys, are most appropriate for plumbing systems based on factors like water quality, pressure, and temperature; Design and implement measures to prevent corrosion in pipes, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the plumbing system and ensuring water safety, by preventing alloy dissolution into the water stream; Carrying out failure analysis of materials. When a plumbing component fails, you will conduct failure analysis to determine the root cause, such as material defects or environmental factors, to prevent future failures; You will be involved in designing post-manufacturing treatment processes for pipes and fittings to ensure they meet specific quality standards and improve durability; Provide an informed advice on the installation, repair and maintenance of furnace to ensure optimal efficiency and reliability in service; Conduct research into the properties and composition of materials such as ceramics and composite; and Recommend appropriate materials for improved furnace and gas line service performances, based on in-depth knowledge of physical metallurgy, materials behavior in service environment, and materials selection.
