Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

:

The Material Planner coordinates and oversees the company's material supply and inventory management. This position works alongside production and logistics to ensure on-time shipment of customer orders. Advanced skill and experience in procurement and storage of raw materials in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is required. The Material Planner is responsible for scheduling and procuring materials and coordinating production forecasts to align material deliveries with production requirement dates. This position must be proficient in the understanding and usage of inventory management software and the development of internal scheduling systems. The successful facilitation of supply and inventory management is integral to the company's operations and in exceeding customer expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Facilitates and administers all operations related to material procurement, inventory management, and demand forecasting. Develop, maintain, and train on all procedures, instructions, policies and programs maintained by Production and Logistics Operations. Consistently monitor market pricing to ensure competitiveness and maintain optimal profitability of company product. Prepare and maintain production forecasting schedules utilizing customer orders and forecasts, factoring in material and capacity availability. Schedule and lead multiple weekly production meetings to collaborate with all Operations departments, efficiently scheduling production requirements according to immediate and forecasted demand, in conjunction with material lead times. Identify, resolve and communicate of any risk and/or inventory shortages to leadership that may affect operations or lead to disruption of supply. Report on Quality concerns and reject and/or quarantine material in accordance with company Quality policies and procedures. Utilizes the company's Business Central software to create and maintain an inventory tracking database. Build relationships through direct communication with Customers, Suppliers, Vendors, and any necessary bodies to achieve the intended objectives Participate in training/cross-training, both for overall career development, as well as to ensure support is available in the absence of key planning positions. Provide and build reports according to leadership requests, analyzing and summarizing data regarding inventories, supply shortages and deficiencies. Continue to encourage continuous improvement and environmental awareness culture. Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations, Quality procedures and work instructions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



Knowledge



The incumbent must have knowledge in the following areas:

Advanced knowledge of planning tools and vast experience in tracking systems development and management Excellent inventory management software experience and understanding Extensive skill in using all Microsoft Office applications, predominantly excel worksheets, as well as inventory databases Ability to read and interpret blueprints Extensive understanding of supply chain coordination within fast-paced manufacturing environments

WORKING CONDITIONS



Physical Demands



The physical demands of the Material Planner must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to handle weight up to 50lbs (23kg), able to work standing and/or work on a computer for extended periods of time.

Environmental Conditions



While performing the essential functions of this job, the Material Planner will work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and may encounter moving mechanical parts, Forklift and Overhead Crane traffic, congested work areas, slippery floors, moderate noise levels and heat.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE



Post-secondary degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or related technical field desirable.

Minimum three years' experience in production scheduling, material planning or inventory control roles within a fast-paced Manufacturing environment.
