The Material Handler is responsible for participating in the shipping and receiving operations of the yard, which includes loading/unloading trucks, managing inventory control processes and quality control of outgoing/returning materials. This role requires the operation of a counterbalance forklift to pick orders and prepare outgoing shipments.
What you'll do on a typical day:
Actively participating in the shipping and receiving operations, including duties such as:
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Checking for overages, damages and shortages
- Order picking and repackaging returned materials
- Operating a counterbalance forklift to pick orders and prepare outgoing shipments Safely operating a heavy duty counterbalance forklift outdoors, over uneven terrain to move material and pick orders when required
Consistently executing pedestrian safety while operating machinery
Actively participating in cycle counts and inventory control processes
Maintaining an exceptional attendance record with consistent emphasis on punctuality
Participating in all group health and safety meetings. Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety
Complying with all PERI policies and procedures, and provincial health and safety standards, at all times
Respect working procedure
Use protective personal equipment when required
Report hazards and accidents
Take care of your health and safety and that of the others
Other related duties as assigned
What you'll need to be successful:
Must have a valid forklift licensefrom a recognized and accredited Canadian training program or school
Minimum of 1-3 years' experience in the safe operation of a counterbalance forklift
Previous experience working in an outdoor environment with a variety of hand and power tools preferred
Previous experience organizing material in an outdoor environment is preferred
Experience operating a diesel-powered counterbalance forklift with capacities up to 15,000 pounds/ 7,000 kilograms is preferred
Ability to handle both large and small parts for material preparation and movement
Ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and the ability to count parts manually
Ability to differentiate between colours, shapes and sizes
Dedication to promoting and maintaining the highest standard of workplace health and safety
Comply with the mandatory respiratory protection program, where required
Excellent organizational and time management abilities
Ability to work within a team and individually with minimal supervision
The ability to function effectively in a dynamic, diverse, and fast-paced environment
