Job Summary
The Material Handler Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the material handling team, ensuring the efficient and safe movement, storage, and distribution of production related materials within the plant. This role involves supervising material handlers, coordinating with other departments including paint, fabrication, production, and inventory, while implementing continuous improvement initiatives and remaining compliant with Health and Safety practices and legislation.
Job Duties
Manage the flow of production related materials throughout the plant by ensuring timely delivery of parts and materials to departments to meet production and paint schedules.
Lead, train, and assign tasks to material handlers, ensuring they understand their tasks and responsibilities.
In coordination with the Inventory team, maintain inventory by identifying and placing materials in the correct locations to ensure no disruptions to production. Support Inventory team with yearly full site stock counts, ensuring inventory accuracy and placement.
Develop strategies to improve internal materials management process improvements, including workflow optimization and equipment maintenance.
Work with departmental supervisors to identify areas for process improvement within each production line.
Operate equipment such as forklifts and to transport materials safely and efficiently.
Enforce safety protocols and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment.
Complete any special projects as required.
People Requirements
Lead a team of 10-15 Material Handlers.
Enforce attendance and timekeeping policies, performance management and relevant disciplinary actions.
Provide leadership and direction to the materials team, managing performance through goal setting, KPI reviews, coaching, and performance improvement.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is a plus.
Proven experience in material handling or warehouse operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Proficiency in using ERP software and MS Office.
Ability to operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts).
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
