The projected start date is January 2nd, 2026 with an end date of December 31st, 2027 (or depending on the candidate's availability or needs). It is expected that the student will work 22.5 hours per week with the possibility of part-time extension.


$25.17 to $31.69 per hour (Varies as per the level of education and experience.)

Duties


----------


Under the joint supervision of a research scientist (AAFC), a nutritionist (AAFC) and a research scientist in veterinary medicine (University of Montreal), the successful candidate will carry out a research project on the maintenance of microbiota within an in vitro digestion system (IVIDIP) developed by AAFC.



This work is part of a larger study looking at several aspects of digestion, with a view to improve knowledge about the nutritional aspects, including digestibility of products from cellular agriculture. We are therefore looking for an inquisitive and motivated individual to carry out the following tasks: literature search and analysis, planning and execution of laboratory experiments (media development, microbiota maintenance, specific activity analyses, flow cytometry, sequencing, etc.), interpretation and analysis of data, preparation of progress reports and manuscripts. This project is funded and carried out in collaboration with several partners including the NRC and New Harvest.


Work environment

The workplace is the Saint-Hyacinthe Research and Development Centre (In-person for a minimum of 18 hours per week (80% of 22.5 hours per week). More specifically, the in vitro digestion laboratory under the supervision of Yves Arcand, Ph.D., and Isabelle Germain DtP MSc PhD



The laboratory specializes in the development and use of different in vitro digestion systems and digesta analysis.

Education:

Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a master's program in Veterinary Science at the University of Montreal with a specialization in Microbiology with Dr Alexandre Thibodeau.



Note: The candidate must be currently recognized as having full-time student status, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and the student must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.


Degree equivalency


Experience:

Experiencein working with multidisciplinary scientific teams.

Experiencein preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication.
