Under the general supervision of the Lead Hand, Mason (or designate) and within established policies, procedures and guidelines, provide a variety of masonry services using stone, flagstone, interlocking pavers, concrete, plaster, drywall, ceramic and quarry tile, concrete block, brick as required for construction, repair and maintenance projects.

Niagara Parks offers a salary of $37.25 as well as comprehensive benefits and a defined benefit pension plan.

QUALIFICATIONS



Successful completion of the Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) for a Brick and Stone Mason. Three (3) years of related experience following certification, with one (1) year on the job. Working knowledge of tools, equipment, methods, practices and procedures of the brick and stone mason trade. Class "G" Drivers Licence and working knowledge of any applicable legislation/regulations including the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Willing to work overtime on short notice and to perform shift work necessary to fulfill the requirements of a seven-day operation. Ability to work from plans and drawings, written and verbal instructions; ability to carryout manual tasks. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

KEY ACTIVITIES




Under the general direction of the Manager, Facility Maintenance (or designate) provides a variety of brick and stone mason duties as assigned and scheduled.

Builds, maintains, alters and repairs a variety of brick and stone structures such as stairs, protective barriers, concrete and stone curbs, walls, fences and custom ornamental brick and stone work. Provides installation and maintenance of structural brick and stone systems and support items. Performs structural brick and stone work and systems in accordance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and Ontario Fire Code (OFC). Installs concrete footings and foundations, pours and finishes concrete sidewalks, floors pads, curbs and stairs. Lays out, positions and sets vertical and horizontal alignment of structures using plumb bob, gauge line and level. Lays out wall patterns or foundations using straight edge, construction level or staked lines. Installs, replaces and repairs stone, flag stone, and interlocking pavers for maintenance and construction projects. Builds, replaces and repairs new and existing stone, brick or block walls. Installs specialized concrete resurfacing products (i.e. stamped and/or coloured concrete and exposed aggregate). Shapes, trims, faces, bevels, polishes and cuts stone, blocks, brick and related masonry products using power saws, cutting equipment and hand tools in completed specialized/custom finish work (i.e. mounting of memorial plaques). Mix mortar, grout, plaster, concrete as required for maintenance and construction projects. Develops templates and formwork and other work aids for concrete benches, bench ends, urns, planters, trays, boxes curbs, and slabs. Prepares masonry surfaces and substrates (i.e. cleaning, neutralizing and sealing). Repairs, replaces, modifies, duplicates and restores NPC concrete, brick and stone Infrastructure. Repairs/installs terrazzo floors (i.e. removal, colour matching, polishing). Builds and repairs new and existing plaster, drywall, ceramic and quarry tile on walls and/or ceilings. Conducts repairs using a variety of specialized masonry related sealants and epoxies (i.e. fire stops, control joints, etc.). Voluntarily participates in annual rock scaling program at Table Rock complex. Interprets/reads blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine details, specifications and to calculate the materials required to complete the tasks. Determine the required tools, equipment and work methods while applying knowledge of brick and stone materials and processes. Operates specialised masonry trade related tools (including water-fed diamond coring drills and mechanical fastening tools). Safely operates elevated work platforms (EWPs) and fork lifts. Responds to brick and stone mason related request for service (work orders), determines cause and takes and/or recommends appropriate action for repair, as required. Working cooperatively and assisting with other Facilities Maintenance and operational staff or contracted vendors of record (VOR) staff of masonry related items. Maintains clear, concise and accurate daily work records including but not limited to requests for service reports, daily work sheets, and time sheets. Sources and orders materials from suppliers as required. Operates shop vehicles, delivering and picking up materials as required. Reports broken, lost or defective tools or equipment to supervisor. Complies with all applicable legislation as well as any related policies and procedures including safety procedures and the maintenance of clean work area. Works cooperatively and acts as a mentor to other NPC employees, apprentices and students.
