NOTE: We will only be considering applications from post-secondary students who will be returning to full-time studies in the fall of 2023. Candidates must meet requirements set out by the Venture for Canada grant powered by the Government of Canada\'s Student Work Placement Program. This position is contingent on this grant funding. You and the role As a multi-faceted communications professional, you are responsible for developing creative and engaging marketing, communications, and public relations strategies to drive our brand. You have a knack for keeping all things organized and paying special attention to details. You are an out-of-the box thinker with big ideas and a passion for community and local business. You are a passionate brand ambassador and embrace the culture of Old Strathcona. This year marks our 30th anniversary as an established Business Improvement Area (BIA). Part of this role will be focused on brainstorming, coordinating, and executing projects and content that celebrate 30 years of economic development through community collaboration. Responsibilities Project coordination

  • You will assist and support events and programs related to our 30th anniversary. This could involve creating special website and social media content, planning events, and/or coordinating a public mural project.
  • You are an avid planner and pride yourself in the details.
  • Experience leading and planning special projects or events is an asset.
  • Research is something you excel in - you enjoy digging up details on history, events, businesses and community milestones.
Marketing Support
  • You assist and support marketing and communications initiatives led by our marketing & communications coordinator.
  • You are no stranger to social media marketing and know how to create engagement online through various online networks.
  • You are confident with a variety of marketing and communications strategies and tactics and can step in when our marketing coordinator is away.
  • Use of digital marketing and communications tools to communicate concisely with various audiences.
  • Coordinating internal communications and deadlines with project management platform, Asana.
  • Create and design documents using Microsoft applications or programs like Adobe or Canva.
  • You have strong communication skills - both verbal and written. You are comfortable supporting a variety of communications with members, stakeholders, and the public.
  • You manage and document all important dates, so we don\xe2\x80\x99t miss vital deadlines.
Qualifications/Desired Skills
  • Post-secondary education related to business, marketing, or communications is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer software such as: Microsoft office 365, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Publisher, project management software and CRMs. Experience with Adobe Creative suite is an asset.
  • Experience in online marketing including website, blogs and social media engagement. Working knowledge of Wordpress is an asset.
  • You have no problem quickly learning new online applications and systems.
  • An outgoing, confident personality is essential to this role; as is a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone to engage with people, professionals, and support our team.
  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative. You are a problem solver.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet goals with little supervision.
  • Your writing and communication skills are top-notch.
  • Strong customer service, organization skills, ability to multitask effectively and creatively.
  • You thrive in a changing environment working within a small team.
  • You are familiar with Old Strathcona and small business in Edmonton.
  • Must be a currently enrolled student at a recognized post-secondary institution in Alberta and returning to school in the fall.
