The Vancouver Island Symphony is in search of an enthusiastic and dynamic Marketing Director to join our team. This position plays an integral role in promoting our concerts and events, managing our brand, and growing our public relations initiatives to strengthen our ties with the community and our audiences. The Vancouver Island Symphony performs 8-10 concerts at The Port Theatre in Nanaimo, a series of three concerts at the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay, and over 30 concerts each summer in stunning outdoor locations across Vancouver Island. Additionally, the VIS presents Education Concerts for 2,000+ students annually, a Family Series, a KeyNote Speaker Series, and various community engagement activities. www.vancouverislandsymphony.com
Key Responsibilities:
1. Marketing of Concerts and Events:
Develop and execute marketing strategies to build attendance at concerts and community events.
Partner with CEO, the graphic design and development teams to guide the creative direction of advertising and public-facing communications, encompassing print, digital, and video assets.
Collaborate with the graphic designer to create promotional materials, including the season brochure, eblasts, newsletters, and website updates; prepare copy for all marketing collateral.
Negotiate all contracts related to marketing.
Create, manage, and monitor the marketing budget.
Manage the organization's social media platforms and execute paid social media campaigns.
Analyze marketing campaign effectiveness through metrics and audience feedback, providing regular reports.
2. Brand Management:
Uphold and enhance the Vancouver Island Symphony brand image across all communication platforms.
Ensure all marketing materials reflect the organization's mission and values.
Coordinate branding initiatives and media partnerships to strengthen our presence in the community.
Assist in updating brand guidelines to ensure consistent messaging.
3. Public Relations & Communication:
Act as the primary contact for media inquiries, coordinating news releases and communications.
Foster relationships with media outlets, industry contacts, and community partners.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a marketing or communications role, ideally in the arts or non-profit sector.
Excellent communication and people skills for effective collaboration.
Proficient in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media management.
Deep passion for the arts and familiarity with the local cultural landscape.
Post Secondary Degree in Communications, Arts Management, or a related field is an asset.

Compensation: $40,000.- $48,000 (contract)
